Two Bolts sign Letters of Intent for the Hawkeyes

Woody and Cannon commit to U of I Track and Field

NORTH LIBERTY– Liberty High student athletes Drake Woody and Taylor Cannon signed Letters of Intent for the University of Iowa’s Track and Field programs Monday, Feb. 24.
Cannon, a senior, transferred to Liberty from Iowa City West High and was a qualifier for the State Coed Track and Field Meet in 2018 and 2019 with the Bolts. Cannon, Chaise Lange, Devon Dunson and Ashlyn Keeney took the runner-up spot in the distance medley relay last year, just three seconds behind champion Cedar Falls. Cannon was also the runner-up in the 100-meter hurdles and was a mere 0.23 seconds behind champion Darby Thomas of Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln. Cannon, Elizabeth Davis, Jada Murphy, and Gabbie Schroeder were sixth in the shuttle hurdle relay.
Woody, also a senior and an “O-Bolt,” or “Original Bolt,” has been the quarterback for Liberty High’s football team since its inception. He also was a state track qualifier last year, finishing 11th in the 400-meter dash and ninth in the 400-meter hurdles. Woody, Evan Chandler, Tayshaun McGee, and Bo Gryp were 20th in the distance medley relay.
