Trojan-Bolts top field at Little Hawk swimming invitational

Liberty’s Hajek and West’s Pinter set meet records
Liberty High senior Izaak Hajek set a new meet record Saturday, Dec. 21, in the 100-yard butterfly in City High’s Little Hawk Invitational. Hajek won the event in 50.83 seconds, beating the previous time of 51.37 set in 2006.

IOWA CITY– The combined Iowa City West High and Liberty High boys swim team closed out 2019 winning the 2019 Little Hawk Invitational hosted by Iowa City, City High on Saturday, Dec. 21, at the Mercer Park Aquatic Center.
West High’s Trojan-Bolts won with a team score of 426 points, topping the eight-team field. City High was fifth with 250, while fellow MVC rival Cedar Falls was sixth with 183. Ankeny took the runner-up spot with 358 team points.
Liberty’s Izaak Hajek won the 100-yard butterfly in 50.83 seconds, setting a new meet record in the process. Nick Cordes, of Cedar Falls, set the previous record time of 51.37 seconds in 2006. West High’s James Pinter won the 100-yard backstroke in 51.73 seconds beating the previous record of 51.98 set in 2010 by Cedar Falls’ Austin Abbas.
Hajek and Pinter, both seniors, teamed up with sophomore Jordan Christensen and freshman Diggory Dillingham to win the 200-yard medley relay in 1:35.62. The foursome set a new meet record, beating the previous time of 1:36.79 set by Iowa City West High’s McGlaughin, Anderson, Martin and Keen in 2014.
