The girls spent a week at Drake University in Des Moines, learning the how and why of our state government. They were in two parties and ran for offices from city to state level. They elected a governor who in turn went on to the National Girls State in Washington, D.C. This was an educational event for girls from all over the nation. Usually in Iowa, there are about 300 girls that participate in the week-long activities. Swisher American Legion Auxiliary was very proud to sponsor these two girls to attend.
