Stratton hits 1,501 career points

CCA’s standout senior’s 20 points leads the Creek Girls to 68-27 win over Independence

INDEPENDENCE– 1,501. That’s how many points Clear Creek Amana (CCA) senior Karsyn Stratton scored, as of Friday, Jan. 24. Stratton hit the career milestone on the road at Independence where the Clippers overhauled the Mustangs, 68-27, in the team’s second meeting of the season. The Creek Girls mauled Independence, 58-17, in Tiffin, on Dec. 17.
CCA led, 30-19, at the halftime break, after trailing briefly in the first quarter. The Creek Girls were well in control in the second half, taking the third quarter, 47-21.
Stratton, who recently announced she will be attending and playing basketball at Kirkwood Community College, led all with 20 points. Junior Whitney Traetow had an 18-point night and senior Meagan Harvey contributed a dozen.
The win improved the Clippers to 12-3 and made the seventh consecutive win, a 7-0 showing since the start of 2020.
CCA travels to Vinton-Shellsburg on Friday, Jan. 31, for the second meeting of the season with the Vikettes at 7:30 p.m. The Clippers won, 61-56, at home on Jan. 14. Maquoketa visits on Friday, Feb. 7, at 7:30 p.m., and the Washington (Iowa) Demons visit on Saturday, Feb. 8, for a girl-boy afternoon of basketball. The freshman boys play at noon with the junior varsity girls and sophomore boys firing up at 1:30 p.m. The varsity girls take the floor at 3 p.m. The varsity boys round out the day with a 4:30 p.m. tip-off.
