Stormin’ Pointers top Creek Girls in five sets

CCA falls 3-2 to CPU

CENTER POINT– Clear Creek Amana’s (CCA) varsity volleyball team dipped to an 8-7 record Tuesday, Sept. 24, after falling to Center Point-Urbana in five sets (3-2). The 11th-ranked Clippers (Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union rankings as of Thursday, Sept. 19) dropped the first set 17-25, rallied back to a 25-22 win in set two, and fell 25-11 in the third. The Creek Girls rocked the Stormin’ Pointers with a 25-17 win in the fourth set, but dropped the fifth 15-8. The Pointers, unranked at the time, improved to 11-11.
Calia Clubb led the Clippers with 17 kills, with 16 from Hailey Pollock. Cheyaenne Bunch made 38 assists while Clubb and Gabrielle Bedford produced 18 digs each.
The “Boats” travel to Liberty High School in North Liberty on Thursday, Oct. 3, for a non-conference contest against the “Bolts.” The freshmen match begins at 5 p.m. with the sophomores and junior varsity taking the courts at 6 p.m. Varsity is set to start around 7:30 p.m.
CCA will compete in Cedar Rapids Prairie’s tournament on Saturday, Oct. 5, beginning at 9 a.m., and travel to Williamsburg on Tuesday, Oct. 8. Vinton-Shellsburg visits Tiffin on Thursday, Oct. 10.
