Spartans fifth at Tipton Tiger Relays

TIPTON– The Solon boys track team brought home a fifth-place finish among the 11 teams competing this past week at the Tipton Tiger Relays. Bellevue was the team champion, scoring 91 points, with Camanche and North Cedar finishing runner-up with 75. Center Point, tabbed as one of the pre-season favorites to win the WaMaC conference and compete for the state title in class 3A ,was fourth with 68. The Spartans were close behind, scoring 60 points.
Field event results:
Tanner Wymer turned in a solid performance in the discus with a throw of 149 feet, 8 inches, good for second place, while Kolby Melsha tossed the shot put 44 feet 1 inch, finishing sixth.
Matt Roeder added points with a fourth place finish in the high jump at 5 feet 8 inches.
Emilio Villagrana and Halston Durr swept the long jump with outstanding distances. Villagrana won the event, leaping 20 feet, 10.5 inches to finish first. Durr was close behind at 20 feet, 10 inches, taking second place.
Running events:
Zach Kienholz brought home a third-place finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of 55.24, and freshman hurdler Luke Ira crossed the line in 16.47, taking sixth place in the 110-meter high hurdles.
The rest of the Spartan scoring came via the relays, with the 4x200-meter relay leading the way in first place with a time of 1:37.5. The group consisted of Bo Black, Matt Roeder, Halston Durr and Emilio Villagrana.
Other relay place winners included:
4x100: Bo Black, Ira, Villagrana and Roeder finished third with a time of 46.27;
Shuttle Hurdle Relay: Ira, Greg Brandt, Grant Goldsberry and Kendrick Harris, fourth place, 1:08;
4x400 relay: Zach Wegmann, Austin Kennedy, Goldsberry, Harris, sixth, 3:52;
Distance Medley relay: Goldsberry, Kennedy, Trevor McGill, Ethan Yahr, sixth, 11:11.
