SOLON– It was feast or famine for Solon’s varsity baseball team.

It was tough sledding for the offense two days later hosting Marion.
The Indians held the Spartans to three hits in game one and one lone Ira single in the nightcap, both 4-0 wins for Marion. Ira suffered the loss in the opener, going the distance with four strikeouts and one walk while allowing four runs (three earned) on 11 hits.
Nine of those hits came in the first four innings as Marion built a 3-0 lead, tacking on an insurance run in the fifth.
Ira, junior Tyler Linderbaum and junior Kendrick Harris accounted for Solon’s three hits.
Sophomore Ryan Geistkemper took the other 4-0 loss, an eight-inning affair that was scoreless until Marion erupted for four runs in the top of the eighth.
Geistkemper struck out three and walked one while giving up two runs on six hits over seven-and-two-thirds innings.
Shuchmann gave up two runs on two hits while striking out one and walking one during a third-of-an-inning of relief.
The losses dropped Solon to 18-12 overall (16-8 in the WaMaC Conference) heading into the final games of the season.
