TIFFIN– Although greatly scaled back due to concerns prompted by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Homecoming Week was held in the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) Community School District. Organizers cancelled the annual parade and traditional dance, opting instead to defer both events until a time when such gatherings are safe to attend.
Also scrapped were the annual pep rally and coronation of the Homecoming King and Queen. Instead, the coronation was live-streamed Wednesday, Sept. 30, with only participants and their immediate family present in the stadium for the event. This year’s Homecoming Court consisted of Greta Downes, Emma Schmidt, Abigale Stevens, Morgan Malli, Gabrielle Bedford and Grace Bedford vying for Queen; while Christian Withrow, T.J. Bollers, Ryan Navara, Brock Reade, Alex Figueroa Cautino and Brandon Barker were in the running for King.
Malli and Barker were ultimately crowned, and the entire court, with their parents and family were granted permission by the district school board of directors to be presented between the freshman/sophomore and varsity football games Friday, Oct. 2. The board also authorized all seniors to occupy the student section, which has had a reduced capacity this season as a COVID-19 precaution.
