IOWA CITY– A fierce battle and stunning moments always ensue when West High and City High meet on the University of Iowa’s soccer field, and the 2018 meeting was no different.
The Little Hawks first stunned West by taking a 4-0 win from the Women of Troy, leaving West still in search of its first win of the season, and pulling off the first City High win over their crosstown rivals since 2011. City’s first goal came with 12:03 remaining in the first half as Madelynn Fontana put a shot just past West keeper Julia Bernat’s fingers. Karissa Dilanni found a gap with 11:56 to go in the second half, Sydney DePrenger put in the third goal 38 seconds later, and Dilanni scored the final blow with 6:25 left in the game.

The City boys stunned the Trojans with a 2-1 win for the Little Hawks’ sweep of West High.
John Clark put City on the scoreboard eight minutes into the second half, prompting the City fans to swarm the field in celebration. Gada Ambo, a junior, tied the match two minutes later with a header into the net. This of course led Trojan Nation, not wanting to be outdone by its rivals, to swarm the field in celebration. City retook the lead with 21:22 remaining as Noah Bullwinkle scored.
The loss dipped West High to 5-3 overall as City improved to 7-1.
