Lighting up for the seniors

Liberty High honors seniors’ leadership
Cars pass by the Liberty High football field Wednesday, April 8. The athletic field lights were turned on at 8:23 p.m. and left on for 20 minutes to recognize the seniors' leadership.

NORTH LIBERTY– All spring high school sports remain postponed until at least Monday, May 4 (first practice date of May 1), but all of the athletic fields at Liberty High were lit up Wednesday, April 9, in a salute to the seniors.
Liberty, like many schools, was holding a Virtual Spirit Week with Wednesday’s emphasis on leadership. Athletic Director Mike Morrison said lighting up the fields was a way to honor the seniors and recognize their leadership.
The lights came on at 8:23 p.m. (the first day of the school year was Aug. 23), and remained on for 20 minutes in honor of the class of 2020. Due to the need for social distancing, students were not allowed to gather. Instead, many drove past the football stadium honking their horns, while a few others sat on top of their cars.
Iowa City West High and Iowa City Regina also lit up their fields.
