IGCA releases All-District Soccer picks

Iowa City West and CCA represent East District

DES MOINES– The Iowa Girls Coaches Association (IGCA) released its picks for 2017’s All-District Soccer Teams with Iowa City West and Clear Creek Amana (CCA) represented in East District teams.
CCA Coach Matt Harding was named the Class 2A East District Coach of the Year after leading the Clippers to a 14-4 season, which ended in a Class 2A Region 7 semifinal clash with Grinnell. CCA’s Hannah Bormann, who set a new school record for career goals, was named to the 2A East District First Team. Bormann, a senior, scored 28 goals this season with eight assists and 64 points. She had one successful Penalty Kick (PK) as well. Teammate and fellow senior Sarah Johnson, the Clippers’ keeper, was also a First Team pick with 76 saves and 28 goals allowed.
Iowa City West High Coach David Rosenthal was named the Class 3A East District Coach of the Year. Rosenthal led the Women of Troy to their 10th-consecutive state tournament appearance, which ended in the semifinal round as Ames knocked-off West High, 2-1. West’s Emma Cooper, Lexi Schaffer and Regan Steigleder were all 3A East District First Team picks. Cooper scored 27 goals with 21 assists and 75 points this season as a senior. Steigleder, also a senior, scored 37 goals with 11 assists and 85 points. She also banged in two PKs for the Women of Troy while fellow senior Schaffer, a defender, scored twice, made three assists and had seven points on the season. West High finished the year with a 19-2 record.
