Four Lady Spartans receive East All-WaMaC recognition

SOLON– Four members of the Solon Lady Spartans received All-WaMaC recognition in the WaMaC East for their performance in the 2015-16 season.
Senior Hannah Bluder was named to the WaMaC East All-Conference First Team. Bluder averaged 8.1 points per game, leading the team in scoring with 195 points, and played in every game this season. She went 68-179 field goal shooting (38 percent), 14-50 shooting 3-pointers (28 percent) and 45-77 shooting from the charity stripe (58.4 percent). She amassed 14 assists, 23 steals, six blocked shots and 93 total rebounds, an average of four rebounds per game.
Bluder joined Megan Maahs and Morgan Pitz of Western Dubuque; Amanda Brainerd of Central DeWitt, Kristen Wegmann of West Delaware, Kaitlyn Volesky and Libby Ryan of Mount Vernon and Kylie Beldstein of Beckman to comprise the WaMaC East All-Conference First Team.
Maahs, Pitz, Brainerd, Volesky, and Wegmann were unanimous first team selections.
Junior Josie Durr was named to the WaMaC East All-Conference Second Team. Durr played in all but one game, scoring 174 points during the season, averaging 7.6 points per game. She shot 63-178 field goals (35.4 percent), 17-54 from outside the arc (31.5 percent) and 31-48 from the free-throw line (64.6 percent). She led the team in assists (50), steals (105), and blocked shots (eight) and averaged 3.6 rebounds per game with 82 on the season.
Joining Durr on the WaMaC East Second Team All-Conference were Jessica Cartee and Abigail Dolphin of Western Dubuque, Kali Roling and Birttany McNamara of Central DeWitt, Jacque Murray of Mount Vernon, Haley Lyness of West Delaware and Chiara Atienza of Maquoketa.
Dakota Doyle and Nichole Oberthien, both seniors, received WaMaC East Honorable Mention All-Conference recognition. Doyle scored 167 points for Solon and was 62-191 field goal shooting (32.5 percent), 8-42 from 3-point range (19 percent) and 35-61 from the line (57.4 percent), to average seven points per game for the Lady Spartans on the season. She collected 31 assists, 34 steals, one blocked shot, and led the team in total rebounds with 168, an average of seven per game.
Oberthien scored 133 points for the Spartans, averaging six points per game. She sank 44-148 in the bubble (29.7 percent), 15-41 from the outside, (36.6 percent) and 30-40 shooting at the stripe (60 percent). Although she missed two games during the season, she compiled 25 assists, 45 steals, two blocked shots, and was the second only to Doyle in rebounding, averaging 5.4 per game, with 118 total.
Doyle and Oberthein were among the 16 honorable mentions in the WaMaC East including: Meagan Norton and Sophie Wilt of Anamosa, McKenzie Arens and Brooke Lucas of Beckman, Emily Cornelius and Hailey Saunders of Central DeWitt, Kailie Hazer and Catia Atienza of Maquoketa, Kristen Elliott and Hayley Corkin of Mount Vernon, Kara Moorman and Kaitlyn Reth of West Delaware and Quinn Herbst and Blair Burds of Western Dubuque.
Amy Ostwinkle, of Western Dubuque, was recognized as WaMaC East Coach of the Year.
