Curbside leaf collection begins in October

NORTH LIBERTY– Fall leaf collection is scheduled to start Monday, Oct. 12, and run through Friday, Nov. 20. Leaves are collected curbside if at the curb by 7 a.m. that Friday.
To have leaves collected, rake them within 2 feet of the public street by 7 a.m. on each Monday. Crews collect them by Friday. Don’t bag leaves or mix them with sticks, branches or other yard waste, or any other materials.
To speed collection, avoid placing piles near street signs or utility poles, and avoid parking vehicles in front of leaf piles.
The service is free and weather dependent; snow can require staff to convert equipment to prepare for its timely removal.
After the curbside collection ends, residents have a few options to dispose of leaves:
1. Put in Johnson County Refuse yard waste bags, collected on regular trash and recycling day, for $1.65 per bag.
2. Take leaves to Iowa City Landfill and Recycling Center, located at 300 Hebl Ave. SW, in Iowa City, for free.
3. Wait for spring curbside leaf collection, for free.
