Creek Girls sweep the Lady Mustangs

Schrock grand slam ends 3-inning nightcap with 14-0 win

TIFFIN– The Clear Creek Amana (CCA) varsity softball team dropped out of the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union (IGHSAU)’s weekly rankings for Thursday, July 9, a day after sweeping unranked Independence, 5-1 and 14-0, at home.
The Clippers put up two runs in the bottom of the second inning of game one and followed with three more in the fourth. The Mustangs put one runner across the dish in the top of the seventh.
Gabrielle Bedford went 3-3 at the plate with an RBI. Cheyaenne Bunch had two singles and an RBI. Reese Stockman nailed a double. Avery Allan had an RBI single.
Raina Henze went the distance in the circle giving up five hits and one run with three strikeouts.
The Creek Girls hammered the Mustangs with seven runs in the bottom of the first inning of game two, added two more in the second, and ended the game on the mercy rule in the third as an Ainsley Schrock grand slam made it 14-0. It was Schrock’s second dinger of the contest as she drove in six runs total.
Katelyn LeFleur and Gabrielle Bedford smacked a double apiece and drove in one run each, while Bunch had two singles and an RBI, and Stockman had an RBI single. Allie Rummelhart drove in two runs, as did Allan. Eighth-grader Bliss Beck pitched all three innings giving up three hits, striking out three.
The sweep improved the Clippers’ record to 12-8 overall and put them third in the WaMaC West division behind Williamsburg and Benton Community. Indee dropped to 8-13 overall, 7-11 in the WaMaC West.
