TIFFIN Clear Creek Amanas (CCA) varsity girls gave themselves an early Christmas present as they held off a challenge from WaMaC West rival Williamsburg Tuesday, Dec. 22, at home in the final game of 2020. The Clippers pulled out a 63-60 win over the Raiders to improve to 6-1 overall, and a perfect 6-0 to lead the conference.
Olivia Miller drained a three-point basket to break a 10-10 tie in the first period while Emily Sly dropped in two points with an assist from Calia Clubb before Whitney Traetow finished the quarter with a field goal for a 17-12 lead. Traetow opened the second period with the first of two three-point baskets as the Creek Girls powered ahead to a comfortable 43-25 halftime margin. Ava Locklear, Kalin Rotzoll, and Clubb poured in the points with a three-pointer from Rotzoll.
Clubb made it a solid 20-point lead when play resumed, but the Raiders went on a 12-point run to trail the Clippers 45-37. Clubb headed up the Boats damage control party with a basket to put the lead back to 10 points. Locklear put up three points at the end of the period as CCA held onto an eight-point lead at 50-42.
Williamsburg drilled a pair of three-point bombs early in the final eight minutes to trail 52-48, and had a seven-point run to trail the Clippers by one point at 56-55 before a free throw knotted the contest at 56-all with 3:22 left to play. A rebound and basket by Miller made it 61-58 with two minutes left. Miller, who scored CCAs first two points of the contest, put up the final two points as well for the 63-60 final.
Traetow led the Clippers with 14 points while Clubb produced 11 and Miller had nine.
