Creek Girls scorch the Trojans, 73-18

TIFFIN– The Clear Creek Amana (CCA) varsity girls’ basketball team pounded the winless South Tama Trojans for the second time this season Tuesday, Jan. 28, at home. The Clippers rolled the Trojans, 73-18, with a continuous clock for the second half thanks to a 49-10 halftime lead. Back-to-back three-pointers by junior Whitney Traetow gave the Creek Girls a 45-6 advantage ahead of the halftime break.
In all, a dozen Creek Girls contributed points, with senior Karsyn Stratton leading the charge with 18. Stratton, who hit 1,501 career points on Friday, Jan. 24, struck down another milestone, picking up her 500th rebound. Sophomore Calia Clubb poured in 11 points, with nine from senior Meagan Harvey.
The win, their seventh consecutive, moved CCA to 13-3, a 7-0 record for 2020.
Maquoketa visits the Clippers on Friday, Feb. 7, with a 7:30 p.m. varsity start ahead of a Saturday, Feb. 8, non-conference girl/boy doubleheader afternoon with the Washington (Iowa) Demons. The freshmen boys take the court at noon followed by junior varsity girls and sophomore boys at 1:30 p.m. CCA’s varsity girls tip off at 3 p.m. The varsity boys fire up at 4:30 p.m. The Creek Girls travel to Benton Community on Tuesday, Feb. 11, for a 7:30 p.m. WaMaC West contest. The Vikettes are looking for revenge in the wake of the 58-38 loss at CCA on Jan. 7.
