Creek Girls outlast Raiders, 3-1

CCA defeats rival Williamsburg in varsity volleyball

WILLIAMSBURG– The Clear Creek Amana (CCA) varsity volleyball squad improved to 17-10 as the regular season began to wind down with a 3-1 win over rival Williamsburg on Tuesday, Oct. 8, in Williamsburg.
The Clippers took the first set, 27-25, dropped the second, 16-25, and rallied back to 25-15 and 25-20 victories.
Junior Hailey Pollock led the Creek Girls with 16 kills. Sophomore Calia Clubb produced 15 and sophomore Morgan Etscheidt made a dozen. Senior Cheyaenne Bunch produced 44 assists.
The WaMaC Conference Tournament is Thursday, Oct. 17, at Marion High School starting at 4 p.m.
The Clippers are in Class 4A-Region 7 for the postseason and a shot at the 2019 state tournament. The regional quarterfinals are Wednesday, Oct. 23, with a bye for CCA. Maquoketa and Clinton play with the Clippers battling the winner in the semifinals, at home, on Tuesday, Oct. 29, at 7 p.m. The winner advances to the regional final on Monday, Nov. 4, at the highest remaining ranked team’s site. Western Dubuque and Central DeWitt will tangle on Oct. 23 with the winner taking on Dubuque Wahlert Catholic in the semis.
Wahlert was ranked third in 4A in the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union’s Thursday, Oct. 3, rankings, while CCA, Maquoketa, Clinton and Western Dubuque were unranked.
The state 4A tournament is set for Tuesday, Nov. 12 (quarterfinals), Thursday, Nov. 14 (semifinals), and Friday, Nov. 15 (championship), at 12:15 p.m.
