Creek Girls capsized 53-28

ANAMOSA– The 2017-18 varsity girls basketball season opened on a sour note for the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) Clippers as they fell, 53-28, to the Anamosa Blue Raiders Tuesday, Nov. 21, in Anamosa.
Sophomore Karsyn Stratton struck first, giving the Creek Girls a brief 2-0 lead. However, Anamosa took the first period 9-5 and went up 33-16 at halftime. CCA attempted a comeback in the third period, but found the hole too deep as the Blue Raiders led, 42-27, going into the final quarter of play. Anamosa held the Clippers to only one point, a free throw by sophomore Meagan Harvey, in the fourth period.
Stratton led the Clippers with 14 points, junior Jordan Neely produced seven points, including two 3-point baskets, and Harvey had three points. Freshman Hailey Pollack and sophomore Ainsley Schrock added two points apiece.
Taylor Zumbach led Anamosa with 18 points, including a trio of 3-pointers, Taylor Hinz had 13 points, nine came from Sydney Volkenant and seven from Hannah Houska.
The Creek Girls host Mount Vernon on Friday, Dec. 1, and entertain Benton Community on Tuesday, Dec. 5, with 7:30 p.m. varsity start times.
