Creek Girls’ season turns 180-degrees from last year

CCA soccer improved from 2-7 to 7-2

TIFFIN– The Clear Creek Amana (CCA) varsity girls’ soccer program had a 2-7 start to the 2018 season and this year improved to 7-2 in a reversal of last year’s fortunes.
The Independence Mustangs handed the Clippers their second loss of the season on Tuesday, April 23, with a 2-1 loss, in Tiffin. Ellen Austin scored the Creek Girls’ only goal in the contest, which saw Indee score in the first minute of each half with the Clippers struggling unsuccessfully to find an equalizer.
The tide turned on Friday, April 26, as CCA shelled West Delaware, 10-0, at home. The Clippers bombed the Hawks’ goal seven times in the first 20 minutes with Lauren Riggle putting in the first goal in the second minute. The Hawks shot themselves with an own goal in the ninth minute, off an Austin corner kick. Carsyn Gallagher scored in the 13th minute, and Riggle put in a cross kick from Eliza Evans in the 14th. Gallagher struck again in the 15th and 18th minutes off assists from Riggle to pull off the hat trick. Austin put in the seventh goal unassisted in the 19th minute.
Senior Erin O’Keefe scored her first varsity goal for the Clippers two minutes before halftime off an assist from Maddie Shade before Evans put in the ninth goal (unassisted) seconds before halftime.
Shade ended the game 20 minutes into the second half with a rebound finish off of an Avery Woodward shot.
Alli Rummelhart made three saves with 42 minutes in the goal, while Lillian Hennes served 18 minutes.
The Creek Girls racked up their seventh win of the season Monday, April 29, at Iowa City Regina defeating the Regals, 2-1. Regina’s Claire Conlon scored in the 10th minute to put the Clippers down, 1-0. CCA got the equalizer in the 25th minute when Alexis Schau scored off a Riggle assist. Four minutes later, Riggle attacked with a head shot off an Austin corner kick for the 2-1 lead.
Rummelhart had three saves in 40 minutes of goal keeping, while Hennes made two in her 40 minutes.
