Creek Boys open mat season with loss to Pirates

Alburnett upends CCA 51-27, Clipper girls debut in exhibition matches
Nate Beckman looks to his coaches for a little guidance during a 152-pound match Saturday, Dec. 5, at home against Alburnett. Beckman, a senior, ultimately fell to Alburnett’s Carson Klostermann in 5:57.

TIFFIN– Clear Creek Amana (CCA) High School wrestlers finally hit the mat to open the 2020-2021 season Saturday, Dec. 5, as they hosted the Pirates of Alburnett in a non-conference meet. Originally, the Clippers were set to sail north to Independence for a tournament, which was cancelled.
Unfortunately for the “Boats,” the Pirates capsized them 51-27.
Sophomore Caden Baxter put points on the board for CCA with a 12-10 decision over Noah Mackey in the 145-pound match, while freshman Jack Stevens pinned the Pirates’ Reed Callahan in 45 seconds in the 113-pound match.
Twenty-one exhibition matches followed the meet and marked the debut of the Clipper’s girls wrestlers with Grace Bedford, Caitlyn Williams, Stormy Bauwens, Emma Mathis, Jaycee Jurgens, Teagan Schreiber and Mari Cetta taking to the mat in competition against each other. Williams, Bauwens, Schreiber, Bedford and Cetta all won by fall in their contests. Mason Collins, Teagan Lenz and Beck Arant won by fall over Alburnett competitors in their matches.
A double dual is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 10, at South Tama with the Trojans and Vinton-Shellsburg. A tournament is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 12, at Mid-Prairie High School while rival Williamsburg is expected to host the Clippers and the Stormin’ Pointers of Center Point-Urbana in a Thursday, Dec. 17, double dual meet. With the ongoing coronavirus concerns, all schedules are subject to change with little notice, and per the State of Iowa, spectators are limited to two per participant.
