Creek Boys get sixth consecutive win

ANAMOSA– Cappy’s Boys from Clear Creek Amana (CCA) swept the Blue Raiders of Anamosa in a varsity doubleheader in Anamosa Friday, June 30, and put up their sixth consecutive win. The Clippers took the first game 13-4 and closed out the evening with a 10-6 win, improving their overall record to 13-17 while dropping Anamosa to 1-28.
The Creek Boys came out swinging and put up two runs in the top of the first inning as T.J. Bollers knocked in two runs. CCA added three in the second and two more in the third. Anamosa mustered up one run in the bottom of the second and scored three runs in the fourth to make it 7-4 in favor of the Clippers going into the fifth inning. CCA put up one run in the fifth, one in the sixth and four in the seventh while holding the Raiders scoreless the rest of the way.
Bollers, an eighth-grader, hit his first high school home run in the game while Kobey Schlotman went 4-4 at the plate. Schlotman (four including two doubles), Bollers (two, double and a homer), David Jensen, Cody Ogden, Tyler Hallett (double), Grant Riggan and Camden Smyka produced CCA’s 11 hits. Alex Goedken pitched 3-1/3 innings, giving up six hits and four earned runs while walking three and striking out one. Grant Jensen relieved Goedken for 3-2/3 innings. Jensen gave up two hits and struck out five.
The Clippers opened the nightcap with one run in the top of the first and four in the second. Mike Upton had an RBI single for CCA in the fourth to help build a 5-0 lead. The momentum shifted to the Blue Raiders with three runs in the bottom of the fifth and one each in the sixth and seventh for a 5-5 tie. Smyka’s single brought home a run in what became a five-run eighth inning for Cappy’s Boys. Anamosa put up one run in the bottom of the inning for the 10-6 final score.
Bollers (three), D. Jensen (two), Schlotman (double), Ogden, Hallett, Riggan, Smyka, Upton and Donovan Wildman manufactured a dozen hits for the Clippers with two RBI for Schlotman and Wildman. “Big Rig” Riggan pitched 4-1/3 innings for CCA, giving up three earned runs, striking out seven and walking four while Smyka earned the win with 3-2/3 innings of work. Smyka gave up five hits and three runs (two earned), walked four and struck out five.
