Creek Boys fifth, girls seventh at WaMaC XC championship meet

WILLIAMSBURG– Clear Creek Amana’s (CCA) cross country athletes competed in the 2020 WaMaC Championship Thursday, Oct. 15, in Williamsburg. WaMaC East rival Solon took the team championship in the varsity boys, edging Marion 57-65. The Clippers were fifth with 124 points, and were led by Gavin Zillyette and Brandon Barker in fourth- and fifth-place, respectively. Zillyette finished in 16:41.90 while Barker crossed the finish line in 16:45.30.
Solon also took the varsity girls championship 57-66 over Williamsburg. The Creek Girls were seventh in team points with 145, and led by Haidyn Barker’s second-place finish behind champion Kiersten Conway of Solon.
Mount Vernon took the junior varsity (JV) boys team title 27-39 over Solon with CCA placing seventh with 188 points. Logan Kafer and Conner Bonde led the Creek Boys with 39th- and 40th-place finishes in 19:35.20 and 19:36.80, respectively.
Solon’s Lady Spartans were the team champs for the JV girls, winning 20-39 over Williamsburg. Meghan Cullen and Ava Oldman represented the Clippers with Cullen finishing 36th in 24:10.40 and Oldman coming in 49th in 25:30.90.
The 2020 Class 3A state qualifying meet was held on Wednesday, Oct. 21, in Monticello, after this edition’s deadline. Full results will be published in our Thursday, Oct. 29, edition. The 2020 Class 3A state meet is set for 3:30 p.m. (girls) and 4 p.m. (boys) on Friday, Oct. 30, at the Lakeside Golf Course in Fort Dodge.
