Creek Boys fall in opener with Spartans

Navara leads CCA with 16 points in 66-56 loss to Solon

SOLON– The wait was finally over for the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) High School varsity boys basketball players as they were finally able to hit the hardwood in competition Friday, Dec. 4, in Solon against their WaMaC East rivals, the Spartans. CCA’s season had been put on hold due to the school district briefly returning to all-virtual learning while the Spartans opened on Nov. 30 with a 61-56 loss to Central DeWitt.
The Creek Boys trailed throughout the contest as Solon took the first period 12-10 and enjoyed a 28-26 halftime advantage. The Spartans held a 45-41 lead going into the final quarter. Solon’s Carson Shive, a senior, led all with 18 points, while Clipper senior Ryan Navara put up a team-high 16 points and pulled down seven rebounds.
The “Boats” are scheduled to host Grinnell in a non-conference girl-boy doubleheader on Thursday, Dec. 11, and WaMaC foe Mount Vernon on Friday, Dec. 11, before Independence visits on Tuesday, Dec. 15. Due to the ongoing COVID crisis, schedules are subject to change on short notice, and spectators are still limited to only two per participant. However, games are live-streamed on the district’s YouTube channel.
