CCA students build a needed wheelchair ramp

TIFFIN Clear Creek Amana (CCA) High School students enrolled in the Architectural, Construction, and Engineering of Eastern Iowa (ACE) program with Industrial Tech Teacher Steve Clark constantly seek out real world projects to hone their skills and gain valuable experience. In early October, they had the opportunity to do a good deed while learning their trade.
It was an outstanding experience for our kids, Middle School Principal Brad Fox said. They, in one day, built a wheelchair accessible ramp for a community member.
Clark designed the ramp and acted as the general contractor overseeing the young carpenters.
He, like always, did an outstanding job, Fox said. I was at the site for quite a while and the kids did an outstanding job.
Some pieces were cut and assembled in the classroom before final assembly at the site, District Communications Director Laurie Haman said.
CCA students involved with the project included: Declan Adams, Jayden Donar, Adam Eckrich, Wes Grabin, Anthony Hennes, Jakob Kinzebaw, Brevin Mehmen, Alex Murphy, Cole Pfister and Abigail Tjaden.
