Clipper boys third at Demon Relays

CCA relays turning season’s best times

North Liberty Leader
WASHINGTON– Clear Creek Amana’s (CCA) boys track and field team posted a third-place team finish Thursday, April 6, at the Washington Demon’s Relays. Mount Pleasant won the boys’ meet with 224 points followed by Mid-Prairie (127) and the Clippers (74). Washington (61), WACO (38), Fairfield (24), Columbus Community (22), Highland (13) and Winfield-Mount Union (5) rounded out the field.
Zach Kabbage, Seamus Poynton, Nick Gerard and Drake Mougin won the distance medley relay in 3:56.81. It was the Creek Boys’ only win of the meet. Coach Ben Robinson noted, “We posted seasons’ bests in the 1,600 medley and the 4x400, which were awesome efforts. Our 4x100 and 4x200 relays ran season’s bests, as well.”
Mougin, Quentin Gisleson, Kaden McAreavy and Nick Gerard took the 4x400 relay to a third-place finish in 3:43.29, and Matt Brimeyer, Seb Johanson, Trever Stockman and Dylan Sheely were fifth in the 4x100 in 47.02 seconds, while Kabbage, Poynton, Kory DeHaan and Sheely were fifth in the 4x200 in 1:39.21.
“Those are the fastest total relays that we’ve had to this point,” Robison said. “We had a decent night despite the cold and wind. We were without a couple of key guys due to some small nagging injuries. We had lots of good things tonight, but senior Drake Mougin is just killing it right now.”
Mougin, in addition to being on the aforementioned distance medley crew, also led-off the third-place 4x800 relay with McAreavy, Gisleson and Nick O’Connor. The foursome finished in 8:55.82.
“I’m really excited to start putting all of the pieces together and running a true, full-meet lineup,” the coach said.
The Clippers travel to Van Horne on Thursday, April 13, for Benton Community’s invitational meet at 4:30 p.m. and run Thursday, April 20, in Cedar Falls High School’s meet at 4:30 p.m. The home Pacha Relays are set for Thursday, April 27, at the Clipper Stadium in Tiffin starting at 4:45 p.m.
