Clear Creek Amana attends Quad Co. Soil Judging Contest

MUSCATINE– More than 150 FFA members from 12 schools competed in the Annual Quad County Soils Competition. The Soil Contest was held by the Soil and Water Conservation Districts from Iowa, Keokuk, Poweshiek and Mahaska Counties put on the event.
The Soils Evaluation Career Development Event included the evaluation of three soil pits, plus a written exam about soils in Iowa. The score card used to judge the soil pits was divided into five parts: Surface Features, Soil Features– The Profile, Land Capability Classification and Productivity Potential, Evaluation of Management Practices, and Sustainability of Soils for Non-Agricultural Uses. Students performing well at the contest advance to the district contest. The district contest was Tuesday, Oct. 1, in Muscatine. The Clear Creek Amana FFA Team placed second in the junior division. The team was composed of Alex Cox earning fourth, Ainsley Schrock 10th, Tyler Steines 19th, Olivia Miller 29th and Gracie Downs 61st out of 150 students.
