CCA ends regular wrestling season with losses

Spartans and Sabers spoil Creek Boys’ Senior Night

TIFFIN– Clear Creek Amana (CCA) High School honored its wrestling program seniors Monday, Jan. 22, as part of a quadrangular meet with Solon, Center Point-Urbana (CPU) and Central Clinton, DeWitt.
Jake Neuzil and Tanner Cochran were recognized along with managers Molli Emerson and Madison McCarty. Unfortunately, the Solon Spartans and Central DeWitt Sabers spoiled the celebration with both squads defeating the Clippers.
The Solon Spartans won, 46-24, with Mike Morrow (106 pounds) pinning Solon’s Gabe Yetley in 2:00, Noah Banwart (113) earning a 12-10 decision from the Spartans’ Lane Goodwin, Sam Stevens (120) winning by fall over Solon’s Lucas TePoel in 52 seconds and Andrew Rohret (145) taking a 4-3 decision over the Spartans’ Andy Brokaw. The Clippers forfeited at 160 and 170 pounds.
The Sabers defeated the Creek Boys, 45-30 ,with Hunter Schmelzer (138) taking a 4-2 decision from Central Clinton’s Collin Courtney, Rohret (at 152 pounds) winning 10-5 over Max Cousins and Tanner Cochran (220) pinning the Sabers’ Austin Meyer in 1:27.
Solon defeated CPU, 54-21, while Central Clinton defeated the Stormin’ Pointers, 56-24.
The Clippers finished the dual meet schedule 9-11 and turn their attention to the postseason starting with a Class 2A sectional, at Davenport Assumption, starting at noon on Saturday, Feb. 3. The first- and second-place winners in each weight class advance to the Saturday, Feb. 10, district meet, in Fairfield.
The junior varsity (JV) wrestlers finished their season on Monday, Jan. 22, with the WaMaC Tournament at South Tama High School. Cooper Hoffman, Kyle Pitlick and T.J. Hansen earned second-place finishes with Shiloh Robbins bringing home a third-place finish.
