Boys third at CCA, fourth at Maquoketa Valley

TIFFIN– The Solon boy’s track team competed in two meets this past week in preparation for the all-important and upcoming WaMaC and district meets to be held in the days ahead.
The Spartans placed third overall at Clear Creek Amana’s (CCA) Pacha Relays in Tiffin Thursday, April 30, and were fourth at a Maquoketa Valley meet Monday, April 27.
The Mount Vernon Mustangs won the team title with a 123 points, while Regina (110) and Solon battled for second and third place.
Zach Nunemaker took first place at CCA with a 21-7 effort in the long jump, while the shuttle hurdle relay team of Bo Black, Josh Prybil, Luke Ira and Connor Ham also took first place with a time of 1:01.
Halston Durr’s 21-3.5 long jump was good for second place behind Nunemaker, while Tanner Wymer placed second in the discus with a toss of 143 feet. The Spartans were able to double-place in the discus, with Kolby Melsha placing fourth with a throw of 136-1. Melsha also produced points with a sixth-place finish in the shot put (46-1.5).
The 4x200 meter relay of Nunemaker, Spencer Lawson, Brandan Childs and Emilio Villagrana took second place with a time of 1:32.6.
Matt Roeder finished off the field event scoring with a third-place finish in the high jump (5-10), while Lawson took third in the 100-meter dash (11.55) and Jake Schaekenbach did the same in the 800-meter run (2:06).
Other place winners included:
• 400-meter dash: Austin Kennedy, sixth, 54.05;
• 200-meter dash: Lawson, fifth, 23.44;
• 1,600-meter run: Ben Krutzfeldt, fifth, 4:55;
• Distance medley relay: Black, Payton Nicol, Grant Goldsberry, Zach Kienholz, sixth, 3:53;
• 4x100 meter relay: Trevor McGill, Jake Schaekenbach, Austin Kennedy, Emilio Villagrana, sixth, 3:35.
At Maquoketa Valley, Ham’s win in the 110-meter high hurdles and the shuttle hurdle relay team of Black, Prybil, Ira and Ham provided the only first-place finishes for the fourth-place Spartans. Ham won the hurdles in 14 seconds, while the shuttle hurdle team dropped their time to 1:00.49.
Anamosa won the meet with 115 points, while Monticello finished not too far behind with 107 points for second place. Solon and Cascade tussled for the other top spots, with Cascade’s 81 points edging out Solon’s 78.
Solon amassed second-place points from Durr in the long jump (20-3) and from the 4x200 meter relay team of Nunemaker, Roeder, Childs and Villagrana with a time of 1:33.96.
Wymer took third place on the discus (144-4), with Melsha right behind in fourth place (136-9). Ira double-placed in third behind Ham in the 110-meter high hurdles (15.76), while the 4x100-meter relay (Nunemaker, Black, Childs, Roeder, 45.12) and the distance medley relay (Goldsberry, Nicol, Kennedy, Kienholz, 3:54) also finished third.
Other place winners included:
• High jump: Matt Roeder, fifth, 6-0;
• Shot put: Tanner Wymer, sixth, 44-8; Kolby Melsha, seventh, 43-10;
• 400-meter dash: Jake Schaekenbach, sixth, 54.23;
• 1,600-meter run: Ben Krutzfeldt, fourth, 4:55;
• 400 meter hurdles: Josh Prybil, fifth, 1:01.25;
• 4x400-meter relay: fourth, 3:37.
