Bolts top the field in Anamosa

Sartain, Schmidt, Kinzer, Woody, 4x100 & sprint med win for Liberty High

ANAMOSA– The Liberty High boys track and field team won Anamosa’s coed meet Tuesday, April 23, with four individual winners and two winning relay teams. The Lightning topped the nine-team field with 139.5 team points, with Mount Vernon taking the runner-up spot with 129. The host Blue Raiders were fifth with 79.5.
Individual winners for Liberty included Ryan Sartain in the 110-meter hurdles, Dylan Schmidt in the 1,600-meter run, Drake Woody in the 400-meter hurdles and Jack Kinzer smoking the field in the 3,200-meter run.
Kaleb Williams, Jaquel Davis, Woody and Kelby Telander won the 800-meter sprint medley relay while Kaleb Williams, Davis, Tayshaun McGee and Ben Houselog won the 4x100-meter relay.
Liberty Coach Bruce Davis said, “Our student-athletes are believing and seeing their hard work begin to pay off.”
The season is quickly drawing to a close with the Bolts competing in the Mississippi Valley Conference (MVC) Valley Division Meet Thursday, May 2, at Cedar Rapids Prairie, starting at 4:30 p.m. The district (state qualifying) meet is set for Thursday, May 9, at City High, starting at 4 p.m. and the 2019 state coed meet is set for Thursday, May 16, through Saturday, May 18, at Drake University, in Des Moines.
