Bolts survive Indians

Liberty High baseball circles wagons for 8-5 win over Marion

NORTH LIBERTY– The Liberty High varsity baseball team improved to 10-5 on the short season with an 8-5 non-conference win at home on Tuesday, July 14, over the WaMaC Conference’s Marion Indians.
Both squads plated a run in the first inning. The Lighting flashed for one run each in the bottom of the fourth and fifth. The Bolts unleashed a five-run blitz in the bottom of the sixth, after the Indians scored a run in the top half of the inning. Liberty survived a late rally by Marion in the top of the seventh as the Indians scored three runs.
Liberty’s Tyler Dahm, Isaac Bender and Cody Schroeder smacked a double apiece in the contest, with two singles and an RBI from Nolan Frey. Six Bolts spent time on the mound. Ethan O’Donnell put in two innings, giving up five hits and four runs with one strikeout. Dahm, Hunter White, Sam Funke, Frey and Schroeder each pitched one inning from the mound. Dahm gave up one hit, White gave up three hits and one run, Funke gave up three hits, Frey had an inning of no-hits and no runs with a pair of strikeouts, while Schroeder also had a no hits, no runs outing.
The Bolts’ Class 4A substate game against Muscatine, scheduled for Friday, July 17, was cancelled due to the Muskies’ season ending from a positive COVID-19 test.
