Benefit for Norm Ziskovsky Jan. 18 at DanceMor Ballroom

SWISHER– A benefit for Norm Ziskovsky will be held Saturday, Jan. 18, beginning at 4 p.m. at the DanceMor Ballroom in Swisher.
The benefit will feature a silent and live auction, as well as a ribeye ($12) or Maid-Rite ($8) dinner.
Ziskovsky was admitted to Mercy in Cedar Rapids in September and diagnosed with a severe blood infection. After a few days, he was transferred to the University of Iowa due to the severity of his condition. His infection had spread to several of his organs including his heart valve, spleen, and traveled up his spine and caused an abscess in his neck and his foot. His foot required surgery to remove the infection, leaving a large would that has since almost healed after weeks of daily packing and treatment. At that point, doctors had given him a 5-10 percent chance of surviving.
After several weeks of 24-hour-a-day intravenous antibiotics, his condition slowly improved. On Nov. 6, he underwent open heart surgery to replace his aortic valve that was severely damaged. He recently made it home after spending a few weeks in a skilled unit to start physical therapy and antibiotics. He still has more months of follow up appointments, therapy and healing to do to get back to the old Norm we know and love.
To donate to the benefit, contact Kathy Swenka at 319-626-6665 or Marilyn Grover at 319-325-8859.
