Black (and gold) Friday Iowa 38 - Nebraska 17

Halk Talk

By Don Lund
Sports Writer

Back in August, I wrote a preview of the Hawkeye football team and predicted if Iowa would be favored or underdogs in every football game.
That means whoever I picked as favorites, I thought that team would win.
I looked back at my predictions and I was wrong on seven of my picks.
The last line of my story was, “if things fall right, 8-4 is possible, if not… you tell me?”
I’ve been told that even a blind dog finds an acorn.
The Hawkeyes played the Cornhuskers last Friday at Lincoln for the Heroes game, and boy did Iowa have a lot of heroes.

Winning weekend

The Hawkeyes picked up a lot of wins over the weekend, highlighted by the football team beating Nebraska.
The Hawkeye women’s basketball team won three games, the Hawkeye wrestlers beat the Cyclones and the men’s basketball team went 2-1.

men’s basketball

I’ll start with the men’s basketball team which had a comeback like the Hawkeye football team did against Michigan on Nov. 23.
Iowa trailed by as much as 15 points to Xavier last Thursday in the Bahamas, but came back and won it in overtime, 77-74.

Central DeWitt jumped out to a 17-6 first quarter lead and had doubled up the Lady Spartans 35-16 at the half. The third and fourth quarters were even with each team putting up 23 points.
