Bolts run at City’s Bud Williams Cross Country Invitational

Woodward, Mac and Logan post top-10 finishes for Liberty High

IOWA CITY– Liberty High’s cross country teams ran Thursday, Sept. 28, in City High’s Bud Williams Invitational at the University of Iowa’s Ashton Cross Country Course.
Pleasant Valley won the varsity boys race with 15 points, followed by City High (49), Cedar Rapids Jefferson (106), Pekin (124), Durant (151) and Liberty (162). Peter Woodward led the Bolts with a tenth-place finish in 17:28.1.

Women of Troy sweep the swimming Mustangs

CORALVILLE– Iowa City West High’s Women of Troy notched another dual meet win in the pool Tuesday, Oct. 3, at the Coralville Recreation Center, sweeping the Dubuque Hempstead Mustangs, 132-34, in junior varsity (JV) competition, and 135-51 in the varsity meet.

Indians capsize the Clippers

Marion rolls over Clear Creek Amana, 35-0

TIFFIN– The Clear Creek Amana (CCA) Clippers suffered a 35-0 loss at the hands of one of the top teams in Class 3A District 4, as the Marion Indians ran wild in Tiffin Friday, October 6. The win locked Marion into a battle with Davenport Assumption for the district runner-up spot, and an automatic berth in postseason play or a potential wildcard spot as both teams improved to 4-1 in the district and 5-2 overall behind West Delaware (4-0, 5-1).

Marathon coming to the Corridor

NORTH LIBERTY– Runners, take your marks. A new marathon is coming to the area promising to be a unique collaboration between Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, and all points in between. RUN CRANDIC, powered by University of Iowa Community Credit Union, will take place on Sunday, April 29, 2018 and leave from NewBo City Market, in Cedar Rapids. It will conclude at legendary Kinnick Stadium, in Iowa City.

Trail connections planned for 2018

NORTH LIBERTY– This fiscal year, the city will extend its 19-mile existing trail network by completing three connecting trail segments as part of the city council’s priority to increase North Liberty’s trail connectivity.
The trail projects in the current fiscal year, the top three priorities, include:
• Penn Street: approximately half mile on the south side of the road from Kansas Avenue to just east of Alexander Way.
• Scales Bend Road: approximately 950 feet connecting existing trail segments along Pheasant Lane, the west side of Scales Bend Road and Fox Run Drive.

Scouts seeking new food drive record

NORTH LIBERTY– The North Liberty Boy Scouts hope to set a new record this year. Last year, Scouting for Food collected 6,324 pounds of food for the North Liberty Community Pantry. The Scouts hope to see that number grow in 2017.

965 Phase 2 construction dragged out by delays

Contractor and city engineer seek resolution over liquidated damages

NORTH LIBERTY– Road construction can be cumbersome for travelers and city officials alike. Add to that hundreds of thousands of dollars in liquidated damages and you’ve got, to put it one way, a major bump in the road.
In a prolonged struggle, the City of North Liberty is trying to find a resolution with the contractor of the virtually completed Highway 965 Phase 2 project, after conflict resulted from delays dating back to 2014.

NORTH LIBERTY– In an age of screens and digital media, Geek City is bringing back real communication. Located at 365 Beaver Kreek Center, Suite B, in North Liberty, Geek City is a board game and comic book emporium offering a little something for everyone. Between games for kids, Star Wars-themed entertainment and graphic novels, Geek City hopes to become a hub of entertainment in North Liberty.

Fall leaf collection started Oct. 9

NORTH LIBERTY– City crews start collecting leaves curbside beginning the week of Oct. 9. This free service will run through the week of Nov. 13.
To have your leaves collected, rake them within 2 feet of the street by 7 a.m. on each Monday. Crews will collect them by Friday. Don’t bag your leaves or mix them with sticks, branches or other yard waste, or any other materials.
To speed collection, please avoid placing piles near street signs or utility poles, and avoid parking in front of leaf piles.

Stone Soup Supper and Silent Auction Oct. 29 benefits NL pantry

NORTH LIBERTY– The North Liberty Community Pantry hosts their 9th Annual Stone Soup Supper and Silent Auction on Sunday, Oct. 29, from 4:30-7 p.m., at the South Slope Community Room, 980 North Front Street. The event is sponsored by Hills Bank and Trust Company, University of Iowa Community Credit Union, Great Western Bank, Cost Cutters and South Slope Cooperative Communications.
