Ridership low in first six months of North Liberty’s pilot intracity bus service

Council members reconsider tie-in to Coralville routes

NORTH LIBERTY– After six months of service, the success of the new North Liberty Transit program seems to be uncertain.
The intracity bus service, running for three midday hours during the week, has seen a total of 159 rides since its grand opening last October– costing the city an average $146.34 per trip and $48.47 per hour.
“I’ve been saying for a long time that we can’t afford to do what needs to be done,” said council member Jim Sayre during the March 28 meeting when the data was discussed. “We’re just nibbling away at stuff.”

Tim McCarl understands that and opened Affordable Auto Care in North Liberty to help people get back on the road as quickly and inexpensively as possible. The shop opened Feb. 1 and fulfills a longtime wish of Tim’s after working on the Mississippi River for 31 years.

IC West wins over Xavier in exhibition

CEDAR RAPIDS– Iowa City West High’s varsity Women of Troy opened the 2017 soccer season with an appearance in Cedar Rapids Washington’s Girls Jamboree Monday, April 3, at Kingston Stadium in Cedar Rapids.
West faced Cedar Rapids Xavier in a 40-minute match and took a 1-0 win on a Reagan Steigleder goal in the sixth-minute.

Women of Troy victorious in first match on new courts

IOWA CITY– The grand opening of the new tennis courts at Iowa City West High School was accompanied by a 9-0 win for the West High Women of Troy over North Scott.
“It was a gray day so we even had the new lights turned on!” Coach Amie Villarini said. “The courts were really nice to play on and we expect to get our new windscreens soon,” she added. “With the eight courts it’s nice to be able to put on some extra matches for players who are farther down in the lineup.”
West High won 6-0 in singles play before adding a 3-0 sweep in doubles action.

Women of Troy win fourth straight track team title

RIVERDALE– The Iowa City West High Women of Troy won their fourth consecutive track and field meet Friday, April 7, at the Pleasant Valley Invitational in Riverdale. West won the meet with 124 team points, topping the host Spartans (115), Bettendorf (87), North Scott (67), Dubuque Wahlert (65), Linn-Mar (61), Iowa City High (44) and Cedar Rapids Kennedy (26).

Creek Boys 7th at Bobcats’ golf invitational

McCarty leads CCA with 81

VAN HORNE– Clear Creek Amana’s (CCA) varsity boys golf team placed seventh Saturday, April 8, in the Benton Bobcat Invitational golf tournament hosted by Benton Community at the Tara Hills Country Club.
Williamsburg won the meet with 304, followed by the Bobcats (322), West Delaware (325), Center Point-Urbana (356), Columbus (358), Vinton-Shellsburg (370), the Clippers (382) and Independence (389). Brandon McCarty led CCA with 81 and was ninth on the Medalist list.
Scoring: Brandon McCarty 81, Cory Siders 91, Tyler Hallett 103, Jordan Smith 107, Malack Rocca 113, Isaac Quin 127.

Creek Girls open 2017 with win over golfing Pointers

CCA girls win, 252-276, over CP-U

AMANA– Clear Creek Amana’s varsity girls golf team opened the 2017 season with a win at home against the Stormin’ Pointers of Center Point-Urbana (CP-U) Thursday, April 6.
CP-U’s Natalie Cook captured medalist honors with her score of 52, while Allison Greathouse led the Clippers with 56 for the runner-up spot.
The Clippers head to Van Horne on Thursday, April 13, to face Benton Community at 4 p.m. and compete in a quad meet with Williamsburg, Marion and Vinton-Shellsburg in Williamsburg on Monday, April 17, at 4 p.m.

Clippers fourth at Creek Classic Relays

Stratton wins 100- and 200-meter dashes

TIFFIN– Clear Creek Amana’s (CCA) girls track and field team hosted their 2017 Creek Classic Relays Friday, April 7, and placed fourth in total team points among eight teams in Class A. Mount Vernon took the Class A meet with 146 points followed by Solon (120), Mid-Prairie (97.5), the Creek Girls (85), Independence (80.5), Center Point-Urbana (72), Williamsburg (70) and South Tama (56).
Pekin led the Class B teams (Pekin, Durant, West Branch, BGM, Iowa Valley and West Liberty) with 176.5 team points.

WASHINGTON– Clear Creek Amana’s (CCA) boys track and field team posted a third-place team finish Thursday, April 6, at the Washington Demon’s Relays. Mount Pleasant won the boys’ meet with 224 points followed by Mid-Prairie (127) and the Clippers (74). Washington (61), WACO (38), Fairfield (24), Columbus Community (22), Highland (13) and Winfield-Mount Union (5) rounded out the field.

CEDAR RAPIDS– Iowa City West High’s Trojan track and field team followed up a win at the weather-delayed John Ask Relays with a win at the 31st Annual Wilkinson Relays hosted by Cedar Rapids Washington High School, and back at Kingston Stadium.
